| NIGEL
MOONEY + BAND
Trying to find a home for Nigel Mooney’s
rich, luscious guitar licks and expressive
vocals has always been a task that Mooney
himself has claimed to be ‘beyond
his remit’. For arguments sake,
we take jazz and blues, we bandy about
the words guitarist, vocalist and bandleader.
We settle on Nigel Mooney – Irish
jazz and blues man.

| PIERCE
TURNER
Whether as a singer or songwriter or
performer, Pierce Turner has a penchant
for the unexpected and the unorthodox,
re-writing the rules for all three activities.
Sometimes he performs from behind his
trusty keyboard. Or he can be out front-of-house
clambering over tables and ordering
drinks from the bar. In the middle of
a song! Dubbed by HotPress as "Ireland's
greatest living poet", his awards
cabinet includes his trophy for Irish
Solo Performer of the Year in the Hot
Press Awards. Indeed Christy Moore’s
2004 box set includes his generous tribute
to Turner on the track "I Love
The Way Pierce Turner Sings".

| Eoin
Coughlan
Long
overdue headline appearance from the
Cork singer songwriter and ex- Nomos
player. Eoin has previously played in
the Glens as support to Damien Dempsey
and Mundy and recently toured with Paddy
Casey. He will be accompanied by his
full band.
Originally
from Roscrea, Co. Tipperary, Eoin Coughlan
moved to Cork where at just fourteen
years of age, started busking and playing
regular pub gigs. A few years later,
moving to Dublin saw him emerging as
one of the young singer songwriters
on the scene. While still busking, mainly
with close friend Paddy Casey, Eoin
started doing original gigs around Dublin
and Cork.
At this time he also developed a keen
interest in traditional Irish music
and played regularly as a guitar accompanist,
a style that is evident in Eoin's playing
today incorporating strong rhythms and
chords. Eoin became a regular contributor
to the vibrant and hugely respected
International Bar song writing sessions
organised by Dave Murphy.

| THE
CAMBRIA – written by Donal O’Kelly,
performed by Donal and Sorcha Fox.
Abraham Lincoln called escaped slave
Frederick Douglass "the most impressive
man I ever met". Now, from the
creator of Catalpa, a new play featuring
The Cambria, a trans-Atlantic paddle
steamer and one of its passengers, Frederick
Douglass, on a 1845 voyage from Boston
to Cork. Douglass had just published
a book of his life story which had become
a best seller, but he was forced to
flee with a high price on his head and
sought asylum in Ireland. Having survived
an attempt by a slaveholders' mob to
throw him overboard, he went on to speak
at Monster Meetings with Daniel O'Connell,
and was given a civic reception in Dublin's
Mansion House. 8.30pm. Adm: 12/10

| The
Glens Players present - At The Black
Pig's Dyke by Vincent Woods
At The Black Pig's Dyke tells
a haunting and lyrical tale of life
in the border land of Leitrim and Fermanagh.
Using the mummers tradition as a powerful
storytelling metaphor, the play weaves
between past and present generations
to tell the struggles and hopes of a
family torn apart by sectarian violence
and tribal hatred.
Cast includes: Michael Roper, Gerry
Farrell, Donna McDermott, Deirdre
O'Meara.
