NoCrows – Multicultural Dynamic Folk Orchestra from Ireland
NoCrows is a dynamic folk orchestra from the multicultural melting pot of Sligo’s music scene. Formed in 2005, NoCrows’ growing output of original material reflects its diverse musical roots, from Irish traditional to Latin rumba, classical, jazz, rock and Balkan music. Audiences have been astonished by the unequalled width of the band’s original repertoire, from delicate Irish airs to Balkan Gypsy mayhem, from Catalan Jota to original songs in many styles with lush string arrangements. The musical mix reflects the folk traditions of the various members but also a lifetime of experience of the various players involved across many genres of music.
NoCrows were quick to take advantage of the ease in restrictions in late 2021 by embarking on a tour of Germany and Switzerland including a riumphant return to Ravensburg where they had won “Band of the Year” award at the Zehntscheuer arts venue in 2019. The band also played a number of select Irish concerts including a showstopping performance at Sligo Live’s Music Coming Home festival in October. In May this year NoCrows performed special orchestral arrangements of the band’s compositions by cellist Anna Houston for Sligo Baroque Orchestra to a full house at the Model Sligo. NoCrows also performed their first concerts in France in early 2022 including an appearance at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris.
