Manish Pingle – master of the Indian slide guitar

Sunday 5th November 8pm

Manish Pingle is currently one of the finest slide guitar players (also known as a Mohan Veena) around. Born in the family of music lovers, Manish was introduced to Indian classical music by his parents. After a few years of learning basics of classical vocal, he started his initial training in Indian slide guitar from Late Shri Vishnu Waliwadekar. Manish is one of the senior disciples of Ustad Shahid Parvez, the famous sitar maestro of Itawa gharana.

Throughout his musical career, Manish has achieved several accomplishments, such as the title of ‘Surmani’, a recipient of Manohar Madgaonkar Music Excellence award in 2019 and an exclusive honour from the ‘World Book of Records’. In addition to his many performances, he has also begun to share his knowledge of the slide guitar with online classes and workshops. In 2018 Manish Pingle performed with SAA-uk in the concert Hum Teen: Us Three, trio performance with the renowned tabla player Gurdain Rayatt and talented guitarist Jack Jennings.

Manish is also a highly qualified sound engineer and has even made modifications onto his own slide guitar. Manish always expressed the strong need to introduce a different right-hand picking style to the slide guitar, by using the index finger and thumb on the main melody strings. The advantage of doing this gave him tremendous speed while playing, and Manish has also added a base string to the instrument, which helps him attain an additional half lower octave.
