Gatehouse are an Irish band combining traditional songs with rollicking tunes.
The group base their sound around the traditional west of Ireland combination of flute and fiddle. And with innovative accompaniment, their music draws the listener into a world of infectious rhythms and soothing vocals.
The superb line-up of singer Rachel Garvey, Jacinta McEvoy on guitar and concertina, John McEvoy on fiddle and mandolin and John Wynne on flute and whistles are enthusiastically received by audiences in Ireland and abroad.
Based in Roscommon, Gatehouse have toured internationally, played prestigious festivals (including Return To London Town, The Trip To Birmingham Festival, Fleadh Cheoil Na hEireann, The Copenhagen Irish Festival) and recorded two albums.
Their first album, Tús Nua, received a 5 star review and was on the The Irish Times 2016 short list for album of the year. On their second album Heather Down The Moor released in 2019, Gatehouse feature classic English and Scottish folk songs along with compositions from fiddler, John McEvoy.
Gatehouse are unashamedly traditional and play vibrant, rhythmical music which makes you want to dance. Traditional Irish and English songs are also a strong part of the groups identity and blend seamlessly into their varied repertoire.
Looking ahead, the band is set to continue exploring their rich musical heritage and further establish their reputation for tasteful interpretation of songs and exciting instrumentals.
