CORNMILL THEATRE PRESENTS VICTOR'S DUNG
A Comedy written and directed by Seamus O’Rourke
CORNMILL THEATRE PRESENTS VICTOR
8.30pm Adm: €15/12

Victor’s Dung is set in a farm yard, complete with its very own dung heap, outdoor toilet and
rather poor broadband reception. It is the comic tale of Victor Maguire, a crude, vulgar, abrupt, un-PC Cavan farmer who gets a surprise one Friday morning. We are then taken on whirlwind journey through Victor’s somewhat sad and unconventional life, meeting up with many a strange bucko along the way… Hold on to your hats… and your sweets (because there maybe Cavan people in the audience)… this could get messy..

Award winning play by Writer, Director and Actor Seamus O’Rourke. The show which also stars Tommy Sharkey and Charlie McGuinness has been brought back by popular demand for a limited run in 2012.

GASLANDS
Directed by Josh Fox
GASLANDS
"The largest domestic natural gas drilling boom in history has swept across the United States. The Halliburton-developed drilling technology of "fracking" or hydraulic fracturing has unlocked a "Saudia Arabia of natural gas" just beneath us. But is fracking safe? When filmmaker Josh Fox is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country odyssey uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. A recently drilled nearby Pennsylvania town reports that residents are able to light their drinking water on fire. This is just one of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called GASLAND. Part verite travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part bluegrass banjo meltdown, part showdown."

THE WOODY PINES (USA)
THE WOODY PINES (USA)
Last time this North Carolina band toured over here as a trio, reviewers unanimously declared them to be one of the most entertaining acts on the Americana circuit.  Now, as a four-piece, and with a brand new album to promote, the band is promising once more to deliver what The Scotsman declared  “a rollicking and engagingly idiosyncratic” show.

Front man Woody’s impeccable playing combines with slide guitar, slap bass, percussion and occasional clarinet, and they all sing and make what Maverick magazine described as “an intoxicating blend of rural and urban stringband, country blues, ragtime and jug band music”.

Billy Joe Shaver, the top gun Outlaw Country legend described by Willie Nelson as “possibly the best songwriter alive today,” declared: “They’re the best damn band I’ve ever heard!”

THE FOGHORN STRINGBAND (USA)
Ass Kickin Redneck String Band Music

Portland’s Foghorn String Band stands at the top of today’s vibrant old-time music revival and a fine example of what an unending revival it is. Each album finds them deeper into the tradition, more familiar with the rich resources of roots music, and more focused, but still propelled by that undercurrent of punk energy. —Art Menius, WMMT

Internationally acclaimed Foghorn Stringband has been at the vanguard of a revival in American old-time music for over a decade now. They’ve traveled the globe, been signed to a major label, and inspired a new generation of old-time musicians, all without compromising their love of traditional American music. But they’ve gathered new ideas and new band members too. Their unique sound still comes from the fiery, intertwining melodies of Stephen “Sammy” Lind’s fiddle and Caleb Klauder’s mandolin, but now they’re supported by the bedrock-solid rhythm foundation of Reeb Willms’ guitar and Nadine Landry’s bass. And when it comes to vocals, they deliver; four powerful and exceptional voices resulting in countless combinations of harmonies. A typical Foghorn set is based around exquisitely rare old-time tunes and songs, but a vast knowledge of early country music and recent explorations in Cajun song traditions have molded a powerful new sound. Any band would be happy to have mastered one music genre, but Foghorn Stringband have a roaming spirit, and are already sparking new revivals of American roots music traditions.

Wowing audiences across the country and across the pond playing over 200 days a year, Foghorn is one of the most sought after acts for festival stages and music camps, and ares band mates for world renowned master old-time musician Dirk Powell and Cajun legends Joel Savoy and Jesse Lege.

LAU ( SCOTLAND)

Lau combine stunning musicianship with a groundbreaking yet playful approach to traditional music that transcends the music they hold dear, creating a cutting edge sound which garners praise from far beyond the roots scene. Prepare to be wowed by the wildly inventive Martin Green on accordion, keys and effects, Aidan O'Rourke's impossibly beautiful fiddle playing, Kris Drever's virtuoso guitar and honeyed baritone voice, not to mention some excellent on stage banter and chemistry between the band.

In front of an audience the trio are renowned for pushing their compositions and each other to new heights. With seemingly telepathic musical communication, ten minute epics will be infused with a spectrum of emotion: the perfect foil for Kris's poignant vocal numbers and some eminently quotable stage banter.

One of Ireland’s most popular singer/songwriters returns to the Glens.  Mundy is one of a number of artists to successfully make the transition from street busking in Dublin to international stardom during the '90s.   His mainly acoustic, folk-based pop/rock has been compared to Damien Rice and Josh Ritter; however, his style is more upbeat and celebratory than either, and his jangle pop influence and tendency to experiment with unconventional sonic textures and beats further distinguishes him.

FíBíN PRESENT BODACH AN CHÓTA LACHNA (THE GIANT WITH THE GREY CLOAK)
Irish Language Children’s Theatre
FíBíN PRESENT BODACH AN CHÓTA LACHNA (THE GIANT WITH THE GREY CLOAK)
This ancient tale, from the Fianna Cycle, will feature all the usual dynamics of Fíbín productions – masks, puppetry, physicality and, for the first time, goes seriously hi-tech, with live video feed using pinhead cameras. The performance will be both miniature and massive as we follow the fabled race across Ireland between the Fianna’s finest athlete and a greedy Greek prince who wants financial tribute from the Irish people (there’s a familiar ring!). The mise-en-scene will incorporate the Bodach’s giant cloak with the topography of the ancient Irish terrain as the two intrepid runners have to overcome mountains, lakes, bandits, wild animals and resist the temptations of a wayward princess in their efforts to rule Ireland. The 12’x12’ cloak will magically transform the stage into a unique performance space that will reflect, both literally and metaphorically, the geography and choreography of this epic race to save Ireland.

Award winning children’s theatre company Fíbín continues to push the boundaries of performance techniques and promises a multi-faceted feast of visuals and sound with sprinklings of magic.

JINX LENNON & PAT MCCABE
Double bill with 2 of Ireland’s most original voices
JINX LENNON & PAT MCCABE
Part punk folk poet troubadour, part gospel music energy preacher Jinx Lennon is the epitome of a modern folk singer  but with his own particular style of firebrand music. New York's  The Village Voice  newspaper described Jinx as an 'Irish talisman' and Irish Independent reported Jinx as a 'live show not to be missed'.

Pat McCabe is one of Ireland’s foremost contemporary writers. He is the recipient of numerous literary awards and was shortlisted for the Booker Prize for Fiction in 1992 and 1998. Out of the dark comedy characteristic of much of Irish literature, McCabe has carved out a unique genre he calls “bog gothic.” His novels The Butcher Boy and Breakfast on Pluto have been adapted into successful major motion pictures. His recent novel Winterwood has received wide critical acclaim.

In an experimental format, these utterly individual voices  will cast an  acerbic eye on Irish life but with wit and true originality.

SALOMÉ
Stiúrthóir/ Director: Proin Ó Duigneáin, Music: Ailie Blunnie: Film: Colm Farrell
This is the biblical story of the princess Salomé and her intense attraction for John the Baptist. John’s rejection of her results in her famous dance and his execution. To this multimedia drama of seduction, intrigue and corruption the writer brings an exquisite lyric touch which transcends the horror of the actual events.

PIERRE BENSUSAN
Described by the L.A. Times as "one of the most unique and brilliant acoustic guitar veterans in the world music scene today", Pierre Bensusan was voted "Best World Music Guitar Player in 2008" by Guitar Player Magazine Readers Choice. His name became synonymous with contemporary acoustic guitar genius, long before the terms New Age, New Acoustic Music or World Music were invented. He has the ability to make a single guitar sound like an entire band as he brings the audience on a mesmerizing musical journey. And yet, Bensusan is more than what any musician or music lover expects from a guitarist. He is a composer as well as a bilingual and a brave improvisational vocalist, melding whistles and resonant low notes with something like his own scat technique.

DAMIEN DEMPSEY
‘New album ‘Almighty Love’ Out 28th September’
DAMIEN DEMPSEY

The outstanding singer plays his 10th Glens concert.  Damien's new studio album "Almighty Love" is set for release 28 September. "Almighty Love" has been over four years in the making, and is Dempsey's most definitive recording to date. Performances on the album include Sinead O'Connor and emerging London artist, Katie Tempest. The first song release from the album will be the title track Almighty Love, which is a soaring ballad celebrating the powerful strength of love.

Described by The Times as “the Bob Marley of Ireland” and by the Irish Examiner as "one of the most important and evocative singers of all time", Damien's fanatical audience identify with a singer who has emerged from the working-class streets of Dublin's Northside with his powerful self-belief intact, and a storyteller's eye for detail in the writing and delivery of his songs.  His concerts can be almost spiritual occasions – with fans singing along to every word.

He has toured the world, playing his own headline shows and supporting legends such as Bob Dylan, Morrissey, Sinead O'Connor, The Pogues and Willie Nelson, and even U2 at their 2009 Croke Park show in Dublin on the first night of their 360 tour.  In 2008 he recorded a set of traditional songs with the Dubliners for his album, The Rocky Road.

One of Ireland's great singer-songwriters" - The Guardian

BRUISER THEATRE PRESENTS LADY WINDERMERE'S FAN.
By Oscar Wilde. A new adaption by Patrick J. O'Reilly. Directed by Lisa May
BRUISER THEATRE PRESENTS LADY WINDERMERE
Lady Margaret Windermere - a woman of high morals and absolute conviction. In her mind, people are either good or bad, with nothing in between. She discovers, to her horror, that her husband may be having an affair with another woman, of dubious moral standing!  This is a classic Oscar Wilde comedy - parlours and parties, eavesdropping, misunderstandings, secret information, letters falling into unintended hands, and the cheeky wooing of pretty young daughters.  Does Lady Margaret learn about life, love and the society she thought she knew so well? You bet she does!  Wilde’s razor-sharp wit and satire of high society is as keenly observed and relevant today as any contemporary writer’s work. Bruiser’s new production will be a treat for all!
