The Glens Centre is one of Ireland’s premier, provincial arts centres, serving North Leitrim and its surrounds. Since its founding in the early 1990’s The Glens has garnered a national reputation for its high quality programming and its resourcing of the large arts practice community in the area. Our 130 seat auditorium is a listed building, being an old Methodist church converted to a theatre space, acclaimed for its outstanding acoustics, wherein we also offer top quality recording facilities.
The Glens is supported by the Arts Council, Leitrim County Council and Pobal. We open Tuesday to Friday and at specified event times. It is a relatively small, but dynamic centre and is an exciting environment to work in. Leitrim has the largest number of artist(e)s per capita in the country, according to the last census. The Technical Manager, under the supervision of the Artistic Director, plays a central role in our operations. enabling us to deliver our objectives.
We are looking for a highly skilled and well organised person who shares our passion for the arts and culture to join our small, dedicated core of 5 staff.

Technical Manager Job Description
Role and Responsibilities
* To maintain and develop the technical facilities of the Glens Centre
* To ensure the efficient management of the theatre’s facilities, and to provide a safe, tidy and welcoming working environment
To advise on relevant technical or building expenditure, and manage consequent costs within agreed budgets
Main technical responsibilities:
* To liaise in advance with visiting companies in order to agree their requirements
* To work with visiting companies for pre-rigs, get-ins, focusing and plotting, rehearsals and sound checks, and to run and get out shows – all in accordance with good working practice
* To source special equipment not held in theatre stock as required by visiting companies, recording its use and notifying the Director of costs involved
* To advise the Director if specialist skills are required for particular events and suggest sources of expertise
* To act as Production Manager for any events arranged by the Glens or organisations working with the Glens, managing any technical equipment, electrical props, pyrotechnics etc
* To manage the theatre’s regular maintenance programme for stage and other mechanical, electrical or digital equipment, utilities and services
* To manage any casual technical staff (whether paid or volunteer) and support their training and development where appropriate
* To carry out risk assessments if required and take steps to ensure that all statutory regulations in relation to the safe operation of the theatre’s ancillary areas are adhered to by all members of staff, volunteers, and visitors
* To ensure a high standard of customer care at all times.
* To maintain an up to date knowledge of all theatre events, activities and facilities
* To ensure good knowledge of health and safety regulations and undertake training when required
* To look after stock and property and ensure that the security of the theatre and its customers is maintained at all times
* To carry out any other appropriate duties as determined by the Director

The Technical Manager must have excellent knowledge and experience of technical services in a live events setting, a good range of practical skills, and the ability to work effectively and flexibly with a variety of professional companies and artists as well as with amateur groups and performers. The post holder will be expected to work effectively either on their own or as part of a team, using initiative as well as responding to instructions.
Essential knowledge and experience:
- At least two years’ experience of working in a technical environment
- Extensive experience of technical services in a live events venue
- Experience of operating theatre lighting, including rigging and focusing, and use of lighting effects
- Experience of programming and operating lighting desks
- Experience of setting up microphones, monitors and speakers, balancing live and recorded sound
- Experience of programming and operating sound desks
- Good level of ICT skills
- Knowledge of AV set up and operation
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations within a live events environment
- Knowledge of fire regulations within a live events environment
- Good team working and leadership skills
- A professional approach and the ability to remain calm in all circumstances
- Ability to prioritise effectively
Desirable skills and abilities:
- Experience of building management
- Experience of problem solving within a live events environment
- Experience of budget management
- Good time management skills
Terms and conditions
The post reports to the Director of the Glens Centre and is offered as a part-time permanent contract subject to funding. The average working week will consist of up to 40 hours scheduled over five days, which may include early or late shifts as well as weekends (generally Saturdays). Work will generally be based at the Glens Centre, but may occasionally include support for activities in other locations.
