Writing Wednesdays!

Every Wednesday we will be posting work created by members of Mary Branley’s writing groups. Mary Branley is currently our writer in residence and she has been facilitating workshops over the past few months. For our first Writing Wednesday, we have a poem entitled Leaving by Kevin Thornton.

Leaving

I looked around the empty flat.
There’s nothing here anymore.
The red paint on the stairs.
The window to the escape.
Yes, I sat here in front of the fire.
Years of heartache.
I left the mirror in the bathroom.
I left the writing on the wall.

Kevin Thornton was born and educated in Manorhamilton. He studied Electronics in Sligo, Galway and London and worked in various jobs relating to Information Technology. He lived in Galway for nineteen years but returned to live in Manorhamilton a few years ago. He hasbeen doing creative writing as a hobby for a few years now.
